This is the second book in a series of innovative "flap books" constructed using a unique structure conceived and developed by Peter and Donna Thomas. The book is letterpress on Peter's handmade paper, using various metal and wood type faces in numerous colors. On the front side of the "flap pages", Peter's thoughts on paradise, with Haiku-like brevity and density, are printed in black and green using san serif types. These pages are glued over wooden dowels and mounted in a wooden framework, which is bound into the book's covers as a single turning page. The cover is decorated on the outside with the word PARADISE in different colors and type faces. Inside are two multi-color linoleum cut illustrations by Donna Thomas. 3 X 2 1/4 inches, 5 pages, edition of 42.

Muir's quote is illustrated with a 180 degree panoramic view of Yosemite Valley. Donna's original watercolor illustration is color copies on Peter's handmade paper, and bound in a unique double pop-up accordion. 2 3/4 x 2 1/8 inches. 500 copies.
HALF DOME - A CLIMBING HISTORY

This is the story about Yosemite's Half Dome, its discovery, first ascents and history, in a footnoted text. Donna made five beautiful full page color block print illustrations (printed from 4 different blocks) and two half page illustrations in black only. Printed letterpress using lead type (Gill Sans) on Peter's handmade paper. Coptic bound using old growth redwood boards taken from an old water tank found in the Sierra. 3 x 2 1/4 inches. 32 pages.
IF IT WERE UP TO ME

This scrolling book contains the moving lyrics (which end with... 'If it were up to me, I would take away the guns') to a song by one of America's best known singer/songwriters. Accompanied by a linocut illustration by Donna Thomas. The text is letterpress printed on Peter's handmade paper (grey on one side and white on the other). The unique structure/binding was invented by Peter - a perfectly functioning mechanical scroll - the culmination of 8 years of experimenting. Peter's handmade paper over boards with black wood and brass scrolling mechanism. 1 7/8 x 3 inches. 75 copies.
