A:
The region use to be called the Delaware Valley (because
of the Delaware River.) In the 1990's, the local officials
asked everyone to call it the "Greater Philadelphia Region"
(to help end confusion with the state of Delaware.)
Now, greater Philadelphia usually refers to the tri-state
area where the Delaware River meets the Schuylkill River.
P.S. Many Philadelphia natives call the city Philly.

Please define "Greater Philadelphia" to someone who
would like to know about the history, and Philadelphia's name itself, when they
refer to "Greater Philadelphia" (in a nutshell)
