(A Cold, Hard) February (MP3)

introduction

While I was writing this music, a 2nd grader asked for help with her spelling homework. She needed to turn her spelling assignment into a poem. Here is what we came up with --

lyrics about a cold heart in need... that turns warm... and learns how to bleed.

lyrics

Baby,
Is this a story,
From February?

When times where lean,
You had to be mean?
Or, so it would seem?

You could talk,
The talk,
But, can you walk,
The walk?

What can you keep?
(When you're six feet deep.)
Are you able to speak?

Let's help them feed,
Let's help them read,
From the tallest tree,
To below your knee,

If you love to help,
Give a little yelp...
Get off your seat.
Come keep the beat!
