OF THE

FORT WASHINGTON FIRE CO. No. 1

On January 20, 1908, a meeting was held for the sole purpose of creating a fire company in Upper Dublin township. This fire company was to be known as Fort Washington Fire Company No.1. During the years of 1908 and 1909, a local barn served as the fire station. In 1924, a station was built on a piece of donated land on Summit Ave. in the Fort Washington section of the township to house the two engines. In 1951, the first Mack pumper was delivered. We were the first company in Montgomery County to place a motorized piece of fire equipment in service.

In 1955, a larger station was built on the land across from this station on Summit Ave. Thus, the old station was sold to be converted into a dentistry office. The purpose of the move was to house more apparatus for the ever growing amount of fire calls. This station has become known as station 88-A.

In 1965, the fire company was involved in the filming of the motion picure "The Trouble With Angels" starring Haley Mills and Rosalind Russell.

In 1971, a 75' Mack Aeroscope was received, which is still in service. In 1970, a site was acquired for the company's training facility to be built. In 1976, a three-bay substation, 88-B, was built at Susquehanna and Twining Rds.

Today, the Fort Washington Fire Company is comprised of two fire stations, a training facility, a Mack Aeroscope, three Mack pumper engines, two Spartan/R.D. Murray pumper engine, a Mack Heavy Rescue, a GMC fire Police unit, and a Chief's/ Command unit.
